Introduction
October 27th, 1929 is a day set in history for the United States, known commonly as "Black Thursday." That day marked the start of America's Great Depression. While this was not the first depression to hit the U.S. and obviously not the last, it is definitely the most historic. The Great Depression created many needs for Americans and these needs were met by things such as homeless shelters and soup kitchens. The Depression negatively impacted employment for ordinary Americans as well as impacting their leisure activities. There was also a dramatic increase in suicide and crime throughout the country. President Roosevelt, in response to the Great Depression created the New deal to assist many Americans who suffered from the effects of the depression. It would take many years for the United States and its citizens to move forward and appreciate the good that came out of the Great Depression. Even now, America is learning and benefiting from that tragic part of our nation's history.
